“The science of salvation is to be the burden of every sermon, the theme of every song.” (Ellen G. White, Evangelism, p. 502).
Northern Zambia Union Conference music leadership wants to hear the science of salvation in every song. We therefore call upon all our composers, educators, choristers and singers at large to have the science of salvation as the theme of every song.
This is so because “music was made to serve a holy purpose, to lift the thoughts to that which is pure, noble, and elevating, and to awaken in the soul devotion and gratitude to God” (Ellen G. White, Reflecting Christ Through Reaching Out, p. 255).
Always remember that “Music forms a part of God’s worship in the courts above, and we should endeavor, in our songs of praise, to approach as nearly as possible to the harmony of the heavenly choirs. The proper training of the voice is an important feature in education, and should not be neglected. Singing, as part of religious service, is as much as an act of worship as is prayer” (White, Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 594).
With our theme, I Will Go, we are looking forward to a number of new songs that promote it. Composers, it is high time you shinned for the Lord. Show us your talents by composing songs and choruses to lift the name of Jesus Christ through music. During the coming camp meetings, we challenge musicians to sing in line with our theme, I Will Go!
We therefore encourage all musicians to “sing with the spirit and with the understanding” (White, Testimonies, vol. 1, p. 146).
